The Nicolaas Witsen Foundation (NWF) was originally set up in 1990 as a 'pathfinder' for organisations wishing to invest in Central and Eastern Europe. It retains close ties with its founders ING Bank and the University of Amsterdam.
Since 1993, the NWF has built up a specialised track record working with national and local governments in Central and Eastern Europe on public administration reform and the development of the civil service.
The NWF carries out prestigious projects, large and small, to the highest standards of donors and counterparts.
The headquarters of the NWF are located in Amsterdam, with project offices in various countries.
