The management of the Nicolaas Witsen Foundation (NWF) is the responsibility of its Board of Directors. The Chairman of the Board of Directors is Ms Karin Plokker.
The Supervisory Board of the NWF was set up in October 2000.
It is responsible for:
appointing and monitoring the Board of Directors
approving the annual budget and accounts of the NWF.

Former Managing Director Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO)
After graduating with a Degree in Economics, Mr Mennes worked briefly for the Dutch Central Planning Office and the European Economic Community before joining the Netherlands Economic Institute (NEI), where he was appointed Director in 1978. In 1988 he became Managing Director of the Netherlands Development Finance Company (FMO) until his retirement in 2000. From 1974 until 1996, he also worked as Professor at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Currently, Mr Mennes serves on various management boards, including the Royal Tropical Institute of Amsterdam. He is also a member of the Commission for International Economic and Social Affairs of the Dutch Social Economic Council (SER), the most important advisory body of the Dutch government.
Dr S.J. Noorda, Deputy Chairman - President of the University of Amsterdam
Prior to becoming President of the University of Amsterdam in 1998, Mr Noorda served as Vice-President of the University for eight years. Mr Noorda's main areas of professional expertise include administrative organisation, external relations, housing, and international co-operation. In addition to his position as University Chairman, Mr Noorda carries out various management functions in cultural and social institutions. For example, Mr Noorda is Chairman of the Supervisory Board of the AMC hospital in Amsterdam and a Board Member of the Dutch National Television (NOS).
Mr W.F. Dutilh - Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland
After beginning his career as a banker with Citibank, Mr Dutilh fulfilled several management functions at NMB (later ING) Bank. From 1996 until 2002, he was General Manager Corporate Relations and Advisor to the Executive Board of the ING Group. At present, Mr Dutilh is Honorary Consul of the Republic of Poland. He is also the Chairman of the Netherlands-Polish Center for Trade Promotion and the Netherlands-Canadian Chamber of Commerce. In addition, he serves as a Board Member for many other foundations and organisations.
Prof. Dr I.Th. M. Snellen - Emeritus Professor of Public Administration
Mr Snellen taught as professor of Public Administration at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam and the University of Leiden. After completing his Degree in Political Science and Law, Mr Snellen began working as a political advisor to the Board of Management of Philips. In 1975, he received his PhD and was appointed Head of the Scientific Institute in Tilburg. In 1983, Mr Snellen became professor at Tilburg University. More recently, he served as advisor to the Minister of Science and Education. From 1998 till 2000 he was President of the European Group of Public Administration (EGPA), a subsidiary of the International Institute of Administrative Science. Mr Snellen is currently a Board Member of various foundations and organisations in the Netherlands.
